FDA extends comment deadline for ‘natural’ definition

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a three-month extension to the public consultation component of its project to establish a definition of ‘natural’ when used in the labelling of foods.

This element of the project began on 10 November 2015 and was scheduled to close on 10 February 2016 (see Food Contact World 3.21, 16 November 2016). On 24 December 2015 the regulator announced the comment period will now close on 10 May 2016.

The FDA notes it has taken this step in response to requests from the public and due to the complex nature of the question under consideration.
