Jonathan studied biochemistry and specialised in toxicology at the University of Surrey in the UK and graduated there in 2002. He joined the UK's Food Standards Agency the same year where he worked as a senior scientific officer on risk management of chemicals in food, including contaminants, pesticides and food contact materials. He represented and negotiated on behalf of the UK at EU and international level including Codex and managed several research and surveillance projects.
Jonathan joined the European Commission in 2014 and works as a policy officer in DG SANTE on food contact materials including the new initiative to revise the EU legislation. He is based in Brussels, in Belgium.
Helena Moring-Vepsäläinen is a Master of Science in forest products technology, graduated from Aalto University (Finland) in 2012. Her previous work history concerns various tasks in the fields of sustainability and product safety. Currently working as a Product safety manager at Metsä Board, she is responsible for managing the compliance of paperboard products. Actively developing the best practices to handle especially food contact compliance issues, she wants to enhance the paperboard industry to meet the growing sustainability and product safety needs. Helena is based in Espoo, Finland.
Graduated in chemistry in 1989, then a Master in Environmental Sciences from 1989 to 1991. Ph.D in analytical chemistry in the field of Ecotoxicology at the Swiss Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne.

He joined Nestlé Research Center in June 1998, working on packaging safety and compliance.
From 2007 to 2010, he moved to Nestlé Switzerland for the implementation of the packaging safety and compliance strategy of Nestlé Group.

I’m a regulatory affairs specialist with over 20 years of experience in food and packaging compliance, with a focus on food contact materials. At FrieslandCampina, I lead packaging compliance projects, help teams meet legal requirements, and stay ahead of regulatory changes.
Before that, I worked at TNO, managing research projects, and submitting registration dossiers to EFSA and FDA. I hold a PhD in Bio-Organic Chemistry from Utrecht University and an MSc in Molecular Sciences from Wageningen University.

Koen Weel holds a MSc in Food Technology, and a PhD in flavor science. He has been professionally involved in the safety and compliance of food contact materials since 2004, at first at baby and medical food manufacturer Royal Numico (later Danone). After that he spent a few years as 3rd party auditor at ISACert NL, auditing against international food safety and quality management systems (such as BRC-IOP and ISO22000), mostly in the food packaging industry. In 2012 he joined TNO Triskelion to manage compliance studies for a variety of international clients of all kinds of food contact materials against EU, FDA and National food contact legislations. The job also involved consulting and training in relation to food contact compliance. In 2016 he moved to Danone Specialized Nutrition for a global role in packaging specifications, food safety and regulatory compliance. He currently works for The Coca-Cola Company in Scientific and Regulatory Affairs for Europe focusing on food contact materials. He is the chair the food contact material taskforce of Unesda, the European soft drinks association.
Laura Stremnitzer completed her studies in Food Chemistry at the University of Vienna. After a stay abroad at SGS in the field of Food Contact Materials, she has been working at OFI in Vienna since 2025, focusing on packaging, recycling, and food-related topics.
