Alpine partners unveil new PET recycling system

New machinery that allows the creation of food contact compliant PET preforms from recycled plastics was debuted at an open day held by its developers on 1 June.

The Xtreme Renew platform is the result of collaboration between Austria’s Erema and Italy-headquartered Sipa. It integrates the process which prevents intermediate cooling of the melt PET, which can impact negatively on the quality of the cast preforms and consumes energy.

Christoph Wöss, business development manager for bottle applications at Erema, says: ‘Only those companies which are willing and able to adapt will remain in the constantly fluctuating plastics industry in the long term. Thanks to the collaboration with Sipa we make it possible for plastics producers to show the necessary flexibility.’
