Brussels issues new report on science in the EU food chain

A high-level report on the European Commission expert support for the food industry has been issued by its Joint Research Centre (JRC).

It is entitled the Science for Food and gives a broad overview of the JRC’s work in this segment.

In the report published on 13 May, it highlights its compilation of a scientific method for assessing ink migration into dry and other foodstuffs; help in revising the Plastics Implementing Measure 10/2011; and the design of the Facet exposure assessment software.

The report goes on to outline the importance of the Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) project for DNA, which aids authorities in detecting genetically modified products.

The commission’s expert group is also participating in the NanoDefine programme to establish a standardised approach to nanomaterials across EU legislation.
