US packaging supplier Cortec has launched a premium recycled paper and linerboard, offering superior barrier properties to wax or PE-coated options.

The Ecoshield is coated with a water-based barrier coating offering good oil and grease resistance, according to Cortec. The product is fully recyclable or repulpable, and compatible in recycling streams with other paper products such as boxes, cardboard, and corrugated materials.

EcoShield is compliant with the US Food and Drug Administration regulations under 21 Code of Federal Regulations for food contact. The product can be used in applications where direct or indirect food contact may occur. There is no chlorine or other bleaching chemicals in the manufacturing process, which eliminates package contamination found with other papers on the market.

The material is nitrite- and amine-free, and does not contain any silicones, chromates, other heavy metals, or toxic products.
