    Eugenio Cavallini, Food Contact Technical Manager at CEPI has been working for the Paper Industry for more than 27 years. For 11 years he has been involved in the fine papers production and for more than 17 years in the packaging cartonboard business. During this last period he has been working in the field of food contact papers and boards and has been member of the CEPI Food Contact Group for 14 years. He has been the Chairman of this CEPI Group for 8 years. Eugenio is the CEPI Food Contact Technical Manager and has also an activity as a consultant for P&B Industry.

Taking place in Silver Spring, MD on May 12-14 2014, this global event once again addressed all the on-going changes in food contact legislation across the world.

This year's speakers included FDA, Health Canada, Amcor, Sealed Air and legal experts Keller & Heckman and Steptoe, and this year's programme featured food contact representatives from South America, Japan, China, the US and Europe. Plus an expert panel on supply chain compliance featured representatives from Bemis, Wrigley and more.

On 9-12 December this leading food contact forum celebrated the 30th edition of Plastics in Contact with Foodstuffs! With a gala dinner on the evening of 10th December, in addition to a full 3 day conference agenda, plus 2 pre-conference workshops, delegates were brought up to date with all the need-to-know developments in food contact regulations, compliance and guidance.

Speakers included European Commission JRC, EFSA, BfR, and H.B Fuller and attendees provided great feedback on these leading Plastics and Paper agendas

Elly Spies
FrieslandCampina Consumer Products Europe

Elly Spies-Faber, studied Molecular Science at the University of Wageningen in the Netherlands. She received her PhD from the Bio-Organic chemistry department of the University of Utrecht in the Netherlands where she conducted research on the structure of polysaccharides. From 2000 up to and including 2010, Mrs. Spies-Faber worked as a Project Manager in the Analytical Research department of TNO Quality of Life, Zeist the Netherlands and from 2011 onward at TNO Triskelion. During this period she was designing and leading research in response to customer inquiries in the field of food packaging materials. Elly started working at FrieslandCampina from July 2013 in the position of Regulatory Affairs Manager for the Business Group Consumer Products Europe, Middle East & Africa. In this function she supports and advises the FrieslandCampina locations throughout this region to ensure compliance with respect to food, packaging, labeling and claims regulation.

The most satisfying thing Paul has found in his career is the buzz he gets from turning ideas into a customer delighting reality. Paul has a highly successful record in complex packaging project management in the areas of food and drink, cosmetics, healthcare and pharmaceuticals. Paul is packaging manager for Tesco, the second largest retailer in the world. Pauls experience runs from managing the initial innovation through to large scale factory implementation via basic proof of principle, tooling, design, business model development and supply chain management. Following a career in packaging management with Boots and Coty Paul worked internationally at CXO level with many of the major global FMCG brands and large retailers developing new products and NPD systems. Pauls main focus is on delivering an improved customer experience through understanding the capabilities of packaging technology and the constraints of the supply chain and legislative landscape

Flexible Packaging Europe

After studying biochemistry, John Dixon worked in the flexible packaging industry, mainly in technical and development roles, and finally as Director, Regulatory Affairs for Alcan Food Flexibles Europe. Since 2008, he has worked as consultant in a number of roles, including the FACET project. For the last 3 years, he has been the Director Regulatory Affairs for Flexible Packaging Europe.
