On 9-12 December this leading food contact forum celebrated the 30th edition of Plastics in Contact with Foodstuffs! With a gala dinner on the evening of 10th December, in addition to a full 3 day conference agenda, plus 2 pre-conference workshops, delegates were brought up to date with all the need-to-know developments in food contact regulations, compliance and guidance.

Speakers included European Commission JRC, EFSA, BfR, and H.B Fuller and attendees provided great feedback on these leading Plastics and Paper agendas

Key Speakers for GFC 2014

Kristi Muldoon Jacobs
US Food & Drug Administration (FDA)

Dr. Kristi Muldoon Jacobs is currently a Supervisory Toxicologist at the Office of Food Additive Safety (OFAS) at CFSAN, and the lead of the Division of food contact notifications (DFCN) Genetox Evaluation Team, and OFAS Structure Activity Relationship (SAR) team. In her current position she is responsible for supervising the review of safety information and toxicology data in premarket notifications for food-contact substances, providing recommendations for remedying deficiencies, and offering advisory opinions to industry. She has served as team leads for the Genetox and Structure activity Relationship teams she has had extensive experience using non-standard techniques for identifying data needs and filling data gaps, as well as using weight of evidence approaches to overall safety assessments for DFCN.

Research Centre for Plastics Industry

He works at Argentina National Institute of Industrial Technology and teaches food packaging at public and private Universities and at the Argentine Packaging Institute. He belongs to the MERCOSUR Food Packaging Group since 1991.

National Institute of Health Sciences

Dr. Motoh Mutsuga is an analytical chemist at the National Institute of Health Sciences (NIHS) Japan for food additives, where he develops instrument and test methods for food contact materials. He received his doctorate in Phytochemistry in 2000 from Nagoya City University. From 2001 he has worked at NIHS, from 2011 as Section Chief.

Robert Broughton

Robert has a degree in Chemistry from Cambridge University and since graduating in 1976 has had continuous employment in the flexible packaging industry, mostly in technical roles. He was originally employed at the Midsomer Norton, UK site of Mardon Flexible Packaging (later Lawson Mardon Packaging then Alcan Packaging). He was Food Contact Manager Europe for Alcan Packaging when they were bought by Amcor in 2010 and he took on his current position. His role requires extensive knowledge of existing and forthcoming food contact legislation, transferring this into company guidelines, ensuring these are conformed with and communicating with suppliers, customers, trade associations etc. He has chaired the Technical Committees of both the UK Packaging and Films Association (PAFA) and Flexible Packaging Europe (FPE).
